7 Principles of the Maker’s Diet

by on Nov.18, 2011, under Headline

The beginning of the year paves a way for new diet-fads to enter the general population. After weeks of feasting and celebration, people are looking for ways to lose that extra flab they’ve gained. It’s not surprising that people get confused because there are just too many choices to pick from. In this article, I want to recommend to you a new kind of diet that is revolutionary in every aspect, it’s called “The Maker’s Diet” by Jordan Rubin. It’s unique because it’s based strongly on biblical principles that focus on a wholesome approach to eating, dieting, and health. The Maker’s Diet also helps to bring balance to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the person. The author of the Maker’s Diet contributes these natural and holistic principles to his complete physical healing after being diagnosis with a deadly disease. The seven principles of the Maker’s Diet are as follows:

Healthy and Balanced Diet

If you check out Genesis, Leviticus and Numbers, the early Israelites were given very specific instruction on what to eat. Today, food is processed so much that the life-giving nutrients are removed from the food that we eat. Go natural and go organic in the supermarket. Make sure that everything you eat is fresh and not loaded with preservatives. Check out the food pyramid and know the proper balance of each kind of food to have in your diet.

Adding to the Balance

There are some nutrients which are hard to come by naturally in most food. There’s no harm in taking multivitamins that have most of the vitamins/minerals that the body needs. Also, adding extra Omega 3 fatty acids into your diet will ensure that your body remains in optimum condition.

Be Extra Clean

Practicing proper hygiene (making sure that you, your house and your surroundings are clean) can improve your health as well. This will drastically reduce the amount of bacteria that can affect your body and cause illness.

Training & Pampering the Body

Take time to exercise. Science has proven that exercise improves a person’s overall health. One reason why people now are falling prey to sickness is that more and more, people are becoming inactive. The invention of cars, elevators, escalators means that people put less effort into everyday movements. In the past, the Israelites didn’t have such commodities and thus people were exposed to physical exertion daily as they go about doing their work. Give your body due rest daily by sleeping at least 7 hours.

A Non-toxic Environment

Change the environment that you are in. Reduce the chemicals that you use around the house and even on yourself. These chemicals are not natural and may be causing harm to your body without you knowing.

Keep Negativity from the Heart and Mind

Never fill your heart and minds with grudges, stress, or hatred, etc, because they serve no purpose in keeping anyone healthy. Take time off to relax, find peace and meditate on the Lord’s goodness.

A Purposeful Life

Live with a purpose. Live with a goal. Know where you’re headed and you’ll never get lost.

The Maker’s diet is revolutionary in its approach to overall health. If you want to transform yourself in every aspect in a Biblical way, try it out for this new year. God has blessed us with such wisdom, why not use it?

The Quiet Time

by on Sep.10, 2011, under Featured

You probably have heard someone say, “I’m having my quiet time”. To some people this might suggest a time of rest and relaxation. It is a time to just kick back and let your mind wander.
To a Christian, the quiet time is a time of mental and physical quietness during which we put aside the telephone, turn off the cell phone, the television and the cares of the world in quiet solitude to fellowship with the awesome God we worship. We prepare ourselves to enter into the presence of the One who not only created us but also this vast universe beyond our imagination. We remind ourselves, humbled by the thought that this great God of the universe cares about the little speck of life that is ourselves, so much that He sent His only Son to die at the hands of His own creation, to save us from our sins.
As Christians, we might offer our praise for who He is —- a time to bring worship and honor to His name. We might want to thank our Father for the privilege, through the work of His holy Son, to come boldly into the very throne room of the Almighty and present our prayers and petitions. Thanksgiving that He has reached down to us, while we were still in our sins, to enlighten our minds to the truth of the Gospel and the wonderful, free gift He offers us. Do we ever reflect on the forgiveness of our sins, which enables us to live a life pleasing to Him, bearing fruit for the Kingdom, joy, and peace for us?
How about the blessings we enjoy every day? We should thank Him every day for the bread He provides so faithfully. Show our gratitude for warm comfortable homes and how about our health. Many people in the world and our own country do not have health care. Do we ever think to thank Him for leading us to Christ centered churches where we hear the true Word and enjoy Godly fellowship? Do we remember to thank Him for the gift of being born in this wonderful free nation and can worship without fear of retaliation? The list can go on as we acknowledge the Great God we serve.
You may ask yourself, I hear all this but what does God really want of me. This is a profound question. First, God desires a “love relationship” with you. This relationship is more important to Him than your service —- that is why an active quiet time is so important.

Jesus said, “Draw close unto Me and I will draw close unto you”. How else can we do it other than our quiet time? Intimate love relationships are not built frivolously. Without our devotion and full attention, how can we hear that “small voice” that is our awesome God ministering to us. God desires that we invite Him into every area of our lives. Nothing is too unimportant to include Him. He desires that we walk with Him throughout our day and be conscious of His presence. Do not be afraid to consult Him. You do not have to wait until prayer time. Draw upon His strength and ask for wisdom and it will be given to you. (James 1:5). Ask for discernment when making choices and decisions. God desires that He be included in all the details of your life in an intimate “love relationship”. Our service to the Lord will come as we have this relationship and He guides us into the work He has prepared for us to do.
Where does meditation come into all of this? Meditation is defined as “the solemn reflection on sacred matters as a devotional act”. That is exactly what we are doing in our time with Him. We do not need mantras, positive thinking phrases and, most of all, the practice of emptying our minds of all thoughts. An emptied mind makes us vulnerable to the evil that is around us. We fill our minds with the presence of the Living God and dwell upon Him only.
I used to say to myself, “I realize all this but when do I have the time”? I had all the excuses down pat and was quite satisfied until, one day; God convicted me back to reality. It came in a simple question, “How much time do you spend watching TV every night”. When I counted the hours, I had to confess to the Lord that my problem was not a lack of time but a lack of priorities. I was convicted to put Him first. Maybe your problem is not TV but other things. Daily tasks seem to have no end. Go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to help you manage your time.
We are all given the same amount of time each day. “Time is the coin of life” to quote Carl Sandburg. How we spend it determines our course in life. Can we afford not to spend it on the One who longs to fellowship with us, guide us and provide wisdom to make critical choices each day? Are we so busy that we have no time to minister to the needs of our brothers and sisters around us, as He reveals them to us?
The phone will ring. Family needs will demand attention. So many other things will suddenly become important. The lord will show you how to deal with these difficulties as you share your concerns with Him. Remember, you are not dealing with problems alone now. As time goes on you will look forward to your quiet time. Remember, The Lord is faithful and there for you.

The North Waves

by on Nov.08, 2010, under Articles, Featured, Headline

On the northern most tip of the island of Oahu comes the most beautiful waves in the world. I have been told that these waves are coveted by surfers all over. Last year in October, I was fortunate enough to go to the North Shore to witness for myself what travel magazines have been writing about. There I was, standing on the shore blown by the strong winds that propel the deep blue waters of the Pacific to rise to 8- 10 feet walls. They were magnificent and powerful, coming one after the other. As I continue to absorb the grandeur of the waters, I observed the many surfers out on the sea waiting for the right waves to ride. From where I stood, they were little tiny darks spots. There they were, on their boards patiently sensing the tide. The winds blew and the waters came and the surfers paddled long before the waters rise and then there it was, BAM! I saw huge rolling waters with tiny people inside standing on their boards and coming together to the shore at about 35 mph. What a beautiful sight. As we packed up and went, God made me realized how big and beautiful things start out as small inconspicuous matters. Those walls of water come to the shore as any other waves but it was the surfers intuition (so to speak) that picked up the big waves and rode them. It is similar with our walk with God, his moves may seem not evident but it is those close to Him that sense the spiritual waves and ride on them.

The memory of our very first church service held in January 2000 is still vivid in my mind. A few families present and there was absolutely no program for the kids. In the scope of 10 years I would have to say the kids ministry has evolved from a routine chore of babysitting to a vibrant ministry filled with kids excited for Jesus and anointed teachers. I don’t want to focus on when and how we got here because our own abilities are irrelevant to its growth. I like Pastor Rick Warren’s analogy of ministers as surfers who wait for the surf, and with great anticipation and patience, we ride the waves of God as he moves and advances His kingdom. For N4C Kids, moving forward is remembering that God causes all things to grow. This is the foundation of everything that we are going to do in the times ahead.. I learned from past experiences that it is impossible to have any kind of movement without understanding that it is God who will do it at His time and in a manner suited for Him.

Apostle Paul explained this in 1 Cor. 3:6-7 (NIV), ”I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. [7] So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.”

I am believing God for super-abounding grace to flow in the ministry (I’m talking about phenomenal ministry growth!). It is a tall order for someone like myself or any other person to accomplish in our own ability. It takes the genius of God revealed to ordinary people like us because only God causes
all things to grow! As we move forward, I intend to plug back into the vision God has given us – To grasp the heartbeat of God. In the past, we taught children about the HAND of God. How powerful and mighty He is. How just and perfect are His ways. He is the unmatched and untouchable One.. His judgements are true and correct. The coming years ahead is our opportunity to teach and show children the HEART of God- his unconditional love for man, undying compassion for the lost and his enduring service to his people. My desire is that our children at N4C Kids will experience in their young age the life changing power of God’s forgiveness and grow up secured in God’s love for them. That they will live long to tell others about the Wonderful One- Jesus our Savior!

Finally, moving forward is moving ahead. It sounds redundant? Paul explains in Philippians 3:13 (NIV) ”Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,” God has great things in store for all of us and in order for us to grab a hold of them. We must free our hands from any baggages we carry that hinders us from moving. Baggages weigh us down and slows our spiritual progress. We must get rid of them as said in 1 Cor. 5:7 (NIV) “Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast–as you really are.”

I am truly excited for what God is doing ahead of us. The winds are blowing and I know He has already begun. I believe that the north shore waves are coming to N4C Kids and I hope that we are all geared up, on board and ready for the ride of our lives. Happy surfing!

Ushering In The Calling

by on Aug.13, 2010, under Articles, Featured, Headline, Worship

by Annarose Wade

The Praise and Worship team has gone through a lot last year (2009).  We all consider ourselves as family, and as a family we have laughed together. However, lately we’ve done a lot of crying together.  Many times we were so unsure of the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of it all.  Little did we know, God had something incredible in store.

Right now, we believe that God has brought us to a place where we long and desire for worship that is a manifestation of God’s true and perfect love.   Psalm 51:8 & 10 says, “Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me—now let me rejoice.  Create in me a clean heart, O God.  Renew a right spirit within me.” This is what we a team have to live for in this year 2010.  God allowed us to be broken so that when we are all but empty, there is nowhere else we can run to, but Him.  We’ve always longed (as a team) to worship God in spirit and in truth.  We longed for the Holy Spirit to move in the midst of our church as we all sing to God in one voice.  We believe that God wants to bring us to a place where we can bare ourselves of earthly thoughts so that the Holy Spirit may be free to move and do powerful things in us.

We are all called to serve God not because we are the best but because God can see what He can do through us.  God will plant whoever He sees fit to serve His purpose.  In Ezekiel 17:22-24, the Lord says, “…’I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain.  On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar.  Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches.  All the tress of the field will know that I the Lord bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall.  I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish.  I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it.” God is restructuring not only the worship team but the whole church.  Christ is the center of the church and God will glorify His Son to the highest of mountains.  Like the verse in Ezekiel says, He will take the tender sprig so that He can plant it and nourish it that it may bear fruit and become splendid; because this His purpose will be made known.  When we come to God broken and tender, that is when His awesomeness is made known.  Now is the time to worship God with a new heart, and brand new set of eyes that can see how much God longs for us to dwell in His presence.  This year, let’s sing praises and worship God with earnest hearts asking Him to come and nourish us.  As a worship team, one thing we desire is to usher God’s people into His dwelling place.  We want to be a part of His great purpose and we pray that this overflowing need within us will touch lives to yearn for a kind of worship that touches God’s heart.  We want to inspire everyone, young and old to be excited and willing to be used by God.

To God be the glory!
