Same Truth, Different Ways

Submitted by Pastor Belle on Friday, 1 May 2009No Comment

God is a genius! Psalms 39 tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made and science will prove that using our genetic make up (DNA) and even our fingerfrints. Isn’t it amazing to know that there’s not one like you or me in this world.
What an awesome taking…. However, from the perspective of a teacher who is trying to deliver one truth to a group of uniquely created kids, this can be an overwhelming task. We find ourselves asking the question “What am I going to do?” But God’s genius is not only credited to the fact that He created us differently but that He can deliver the same truth in many different ways. Even during creation of man, He already saw the dilemna that teachers like me might face (teaching one truth to many kids that learn differently).this-wa1
This is what the teachers were reminded of during the recent teachers training. According to Howard Gardner, there are at least eight different ways that kids learn. Some kids learn by themselves( intrapersonal) while others learn best in a group setting (interpersonal). Some kids learn best through words (linguistic)while others learn through movement (bodily-kinesthetic). Some learn through nature (naturalistic) yet others use logic (logical-mathematical). Some use art (spatial) still others grow through music (musical). WOW! Can you imagine the genius of God in providing all these ways for us to teach the kids about Him.
So to know that kids are created uniquely and they learn things differently is really not a problem for teachers because God can deliver the same truth in differen ways.
The key to successful teaching is to provide a variety of learning ways so that all kids may be served.  I Corinthians 9:22 says “I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.” God has equipped us to teach and God is teaching us to do it unselfishly. To teachers, becoming all things to all men means courageously doing things we may normally feel uncomfortable with and allowing God to use us in ways outside of our know capacity.  We must then be ready to go beyond our comfort level and teach courageously.  Let us not wait for God to teach this truth to us in a different way.
